So you want to be an Internet superstar, work from home and earn six figures cool we are working on doing just that.
In previous articles we have discussed figuring out what you want to do for your home business another term for this is finding your niche.

We then discussed a few different programs available to help you if you are a Veteran, or Single mother. (There is a lot more of this to come)

We will now discuss step three in designing your income producing website.

Proper domain name selection.

When selecting a domain name there are a couple of key questions you should ask.

Is my domain name easy to remember?

When purchasing a domain you want to keep it as short as possible and avoid hyphens whenever possible. For example H-B-S.biz is much easier to remember then Home-Business-Success.biz. In this case we bought both names. We use the shorter domain to put on business cards, flyers, and brochures. When a person types in H-B-S.biz they are automatically forwarded to our long domain website. The long domain URL has two of our keywords in it, which should help with the search engines. The bottom line is the shorter and more memorable the domain the better. It is suggested to put keywords into your domain name wherever logically possible. Try to keep the domain short and use a maximum of three words. If you want to brand your company you can insert your company name in the domain. Be as specific as possible, for example if my company was called: XYZ marketing and one of my websites was about Home business I could purchase the domain XYZHomebusiness.com. In, this example we have both our company name and keywords, so this would be a good domain name to choose. With some niches such as Home business the competition is tough so as in our case you might have to settle for a domain name with hyphens in it. Try to avoid it but it is not the end of the world.

Has anyone owned the domain prior to me?

When I was first looking for a domain name for H-B-S, I was happy to discover that Home-business-xxxxx.com was available so I bought it. Big mistake. We proceeded to build the page and gather incoming links as well as doing some manual submissions to directories. After a few weeks we noticed that our site was not getting crawled by the search engines. We also noticed that any emails I sent to Jeff using the new domain got blocked by his email spam program “Spam Cop”. We both wondered what the heck was going on. It was then I started to do some investigation to find out if someone else had owned the domain name prior. There are a number of ways you can check this. The first way is to go to Alexa.com and use the Wayback machine. Check to see if the site has ever been published on the net before. If the site is about Gambling, or a Pill store I suggest you look for another name.

Should I only buy a .com URL? Two years ago I would have said yes, however, today a .biz URL is fine. A majority of people who surf the net are aware of the .biz extension and your customers should also be able to remember it easily. As with the hyphen example above if you can get the .com and a spammer has not used it in the past go ahead and get both the .biz and .com versions.

Should I buy all the extensions available? In a nut shell yes! With the cost of a domain name starting at around $7.00 each I suggest for peace of mind and future growth you buy the .com, .biz and .org variations of your domain name. I know of a case where a person put up their site and built it for six months very successfully. Well about three months later the person discovered someone had bought the .biz version of their URL and was trying to steal traffic. Listen you are investing in your future success, spend a few extra dollars now to avoid a potentially major headache in the future.

Should I buy a domain name from a Domain auction? You should save your money. There are thousands of combinations of domain names that will fit your business. Take that money and invest it into your website promotion perhaps through Pay per click or pay for submission to a few of the upper level directories.

I hope this article has helped you and will make your domain name selection easier and more profitable.

How Do I Buy a Domain Name?

Q: I’d like to buy a domain, but I discovered that it’s already registered by a bulk
domain buying company (just check negres.com). I tried to contact them but I have
received no answer.

Do you know how much these companies charge in average for a domain? Or are
they focused on the traffic and clicks and will not let it go?

Any recommended approach to bid for the domain?

A: This is a tough one because domain names, unless you have a legal claim on
them, exist in a pure commodity marketplace. What I mean is: the value of a domain
is defined solely by its perceived value to the buyer.

If you wanted to buy one of my unused domains (for example, “BABY.NET” which is
for sale, actually) then I might ask $20 for it, or I might ask $200,000 for it, or, who
knows, $2mil. What’s it worth? Well, that depends. If you’re a huge company with a
massive marketing budget and are passionate about obtaining this exact domain
then $500,000 might be a fair market price for it. But then again, maybe $100
would be more than it’s worth.

Economics books talk about pricing strategies where you charge “what the market
will bear”, and you can see where in domain names, well, that’s almost impossible to
figure out without a specific buyer involved.

There’s no third party, no standards organization, no reference point for what
domains are worth. I’ve bought domains from others for $200 and I’ve paid $8000
for one domain. My most recent domain purchase, BLOGSMART.COM, was about
$500.

I should note that I have never bought a domain from a scalper (some people call
them “squatters”, or “domain squatters”) or domain resale agency, however: My
impression is that domain resellers encourage domain owners to set unrealistic
prices and hold out. For the individual domain owner who doesn’t know any better,
it seems like a good deal and if offers at lower price-points roll in, well, they’re
easily ignored.

Then, three, four or even five years later, the domain owners with dozens or even
hundreds of domains suddenly realize that they really aren’t worth much after all
because it’s clear at that point that the market isn’t valuing the domain the way that
the reseller is.

But even without that disconnect, domains aren’t typically worth what you may think
they are. To see what I mean, pop over to AfterNIC, one of the top resellers in this
space, and browse their ‘recently sold’ and ‘featured’ domains lists.

A few tips on valuation, before we get there, though: ‘.com’ are worth more than
other top level domains, dictionary words are worth more than multiple word
amalgamations (think ‘car.com’ versus ‘myfavoritecartodrive.com’), and that domain
names with hyphens are worth less than those without. Further, remember that if
you get a singular name, you need the plural, if you get a hyphenated name you
need the unhyphenated too, and so on.

Unsurprisingly, the closing bids for “tiny-treasures.com”, “yourbetterhalf.com”,
“onenet.us” and “2EB.com” aren’t very impressive, but there are a few that shine as
particularly good domains: “america.org” (sold for $20,000), “maple.net” ($5,000),
“x360.com” ($5,000), “itoldyouso.com” ($15,000) and “searchme.com” ($15,500).
Based on that, “baby.net” should certainly be worth at least $20,000, don’t you
think?

I believe that the best domains change hands in private transactions, however, and
that if you’ve a third-party involved, it will unquestionably complicate the situation.

Anyway, back to your specific situation, I would try one more email message to the
domain owner, and if they don’t respond, well, it’s probably time to do some
creative synonym brainstorming and come up with a different name entirely. If they
respond, but are asking for far more than you’re willing to pay, keep dickering: I’ve
been surprised how quickly potential buyers vanish, when I’m just negotiating a
price.

Good luck to you!

Coaching: Boon or Bane

The mushrooming of coaching centers all over the cities big or small, metros or districts highlight the growing trend of students opting for coaching classes apart from the regular curriculum. Once upon a time coaching was a rare phenomenon, generally unheard of and only taken by those who were weak in their studies. But now it is a way of life for students, aggressively promoted by the teachers and too some extent by the parents also. But does coaching really help in scoring good marks in school or in competitive examinations? Is it advisable for the school students to opt for coaching? When is the right time to join coaching? Does it take away time of self-study and make student dependent on coaching centre? Or does it give your career the right boost and direction?

These are some of the questions which every student and their parents face. The craze for coaching has led to opening of coaching centre in every bylane of Delhi selling dreams of guaranteed success. One can see the newspapers, magazines or roads filled with advertisements like you can ‘learn English in 30 days’ or ’score 90% in Boards with our guidence’ or ‘clear PMT/IIT with our two year package’. More and more students are flocking these centers as an alternative or supplement to school teaching. Many experts believe that education is a natural process of learning. For the regular and attentive students coaching is not really required till class twelth. However for professional courses like entrance examinations of CPMT and IIT professional guidance is required in today’s competitive world. A student has no background and idea of the examination he is appearing for. He or she needs proper study material and guidelines on the important topics, exam patterns, and short-cut methods of solving numerical and analytical questions. It is here when the coaching centers play an important role in helping students. They plan each topic methodically and time schedules to complete the modules. The students feel that the tutors know what the important and less important topics are. The minute details like the sections of question paper that need to be solved first are explained by these teachers.

The coaching classes also help students prepare for interviews and face group discussions. For those who cannot attend regular classes, correspondence coaching is helpful. They are relatively cheaper also as they charge one fifth of the regular courses. The students can benefit from the study material and model papers that are sent to them regularly. There are a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration before selecting a coaching centre. The quality, experience and expertise of the teachers should be the top priority. One should also talk to other students before taking admission. The standard of coaching can best be analyzed by the success rate and academic performance of the students studying there. Whether to join a coaching or not is an individual’s decision. If a student is sincere and hardworking with good grasping power he or she can prepare for competitive exams even at home. But if professional help is required then select the coaching centre which offers the best options.

Why Register a Domain Name?

In today’s business world, a domain name and a web presence are a must. All major businesses have domain names. The Web is now a part of everyday commercial life and your domain name is your identity on the Internet. A business web site without a domain name is difficult to find and looks unprofessional.

The Web is where people and customers around the world find information about you, your products and your services - 24 hours a day. Here online buyers, suppliers and partners come together. Securing a domain name ensures that your company name or product names are on the Internet.

For the amount domain name registration companies charge, it’s a small price to pay for increased credibility in the eyes of potential customers.

Several thousand new domain names a day are registered. However, with a little creative thinking, you can still find a strong domain name that reflects your business or specific interest. Of course, the longer you put off registering a name, the more limited your choices become.

Equal Access

On the Web, everyone has access to a first-rate location to set up a business. No matter how small you are, a good domain name can put your business on equal footing with multimillion-dollar sites such as Yahoo! and IBM. Therein lies the beauty of the Web: nobody knows if your site is run by a large team out of a downtown high-rise or by you from your garage.

If your site is a hobby or personal homepage, you can still benefit from a domain name. Your site will be easier to find, and more importantly, friends and relatives will remember it.

Domain names give you a higher profile on the Web Domain names that include common keywords can improve a site’s ranking in search results returned by major search engines. Many large search directories will not list a site that does not have its own domain name. As well, domain names are easy to remember and customers may not have to search at all to find you.

Easy to Locate

And let’s face it, www.widgets.com is much easier to remember and locate than http://isp/users/widgets/index.html/.

Domain names are portable

Having a domain name means you can change web hosting services without losing customers. Your new web hosting service will point people to the same web site. This way, you can to change hosting services to find a better deal, or receive better service without losing viewers or breaking links. Without a domain name, your web site name (URL) changes each time you move, which is confusing to customers.

The Value of a Good Domain Name

Domain names to the internet are the as necessary as wheels on a car. All websites need a domain name; it is how your website is found on the internet by your potential customers. It is your unique identifier and two organizations can not have the same domain name. Your domain name is not really purchased or bought; it is actually leased for a year to 10 years.

Choosing a good domain name requires some thought, because picking a good name may be an important factor in getting return visitors to your site. You will want to keep it short and to the point, no more than 14 letters. This can help reduce the chance of a visitor mistyping your site and ending up on another site.

It is a good idea to choose a domain name that reflects the type of business you plan to do. You will use the name often in your website and if done right it can help you with promote your site with the search engines. What are some tips for choosing a domain name?

Tip 1 - Buy it early. Take a day or two to decide on your name. Think it through, but, don’t procrastinate. Over 30,000 domain names are sold a day. Don’t let someone else beat you to a good domain name.

Tip 2 - Buy your name in .com and .net. Let’s say you buy domain name KCBBQ.com. Your competitor, who also sells Kansas City BBQ sauce, knowingly buys KCBBQ.net and maybe even KCBBQ.biz. Why would he do that? Isn’t he limiting his own business by getting a name similar to yours and won’t he confuse his customers? Don’t think your competitor is innocent. He has just engaged in a domain name trick! He is not planning on conducting his primary business under these names. He bought those names to TAP into your business! Avoid this common newbie mistake and buy all the necessary domain names to protect your interests.

Tip 3 - Buy alternate domain names. Domain names are so cheap that it is affordable to practice this tip. Let’s say you decide that you want to also buy KCBBQ.com and .net why not purchase KC-BBQ.com and .net. These other sites won’t go to waste. You can point these sites to your main domain name KCBBQ.com and increase the traffic to your site.

Tip 4 - What if all good domain names are taken? You should consider buying a previously owned domain name. As we mentioned before domain names can be purchased for multiple years. Sometimes the lifecycle of a website comes to an end and the domain name already has a good page ranking with search engines. You can effectively buy yourself traffic without any work.

Tip 5 - If at all possible don’t choose a domain name that is close to competitors, just because you like the name. For example, if there is a web hosting company called domainexpress.com, it is not recommended that you pick domain-express.com. Take some time think it out, but, don’t wait too long picking your internet identity. It is a necessary exercise in defining your buisness and it can be fun. If you don’t like it, the worst thing that can happen is that you -sell it; There are profits to be made in doing that too!

When you get to your twilight years of your career you don’t have to get out your pension fund instantly. As an option, you can make up your mind to defer getting an income until the good old age of 75 and if you do so you may discover you will get a more beneficial deal. It is branded as income draw down. For more information on Income Draw Down, then go to the First Place Financial website today!

When you are somewhere aged between 50 and seventy-five years old you are automatically permitted to defer the possession of your retirement annuity from your insurance business. Instead, you are able to take away as much as one hundred and twenty percent of the pension fund that could have been originally acquired using Government Actuary rates, leaving the remaining money safe until you require it. On your side, all you should do is to make sure that you pay for a pension annuity by the time you are seventy five years old.

Importantly, what would result if you were to take the income draw down option, & then departed this life? If this did occur then your current next of kin or those responsible would have 3 options: accept a lump figure, less tax at thirty five percent, or instead persist with income withdrawal, or getting an annuity with the money. Your surviving wife/husband has until they reach 60 to put-off the attainment of a pension annuity, although no financial benefits are allowed to be offered in the interim period.

Why get income drawdown? Well first & foremost because it might end in you earning an enhanced retirement wage from your particular pension by doing so. You can also choose specifically when you want to obtain the annuity, thus if you retire at an occasion when the annuity rates are very low, waiting mat possibly be a wiser option. If the residual resources climb as forecasted, then simultaneously with the truth that annuity rates climb with age, you may in the end be able to get an improved pension than you almost certainly would have been given initially.

What’s more, it also means that when you die your spouse or dependants are taken care of economically, as they are properly entitled to the outstanding funds, as highlighted previously.

There are risks involved though. If asset performance on the remaining stocks and shares is below par, then the extent of wage provided could go down. And it is essential to bear in mind that there is no reassurance that the pension bought will ultimately be anywhere near the total figure that could have been purchased at the beginning.

Can one domain make a difference? Issues like homelessness, politics, war, and inequality seem so huge that it’s easy to feel powerless. That helpless feeling seems to depart, however, as soon as you visit Grassroots.org; you discover that you not only have the power to be a solution to the world’s problems, but you have the opportunity to stand up for the causes of a better world. Read on to learn what Grassroots.org is up to and how they are helping build a better world one domain at a time.

Not only can a domain have a direct impact on the world, but it also sends a message to others by inspiring them to take action that creates opportunities for positive social change on a local and global level. Who better to illustrate how much a domain can impact the world than Michael Mann, who in 2002 started Grassroots.org, a provider of free Internet and business services, i.e. domain names, hosting, email and consulting, to qualified charities.

Michael Mann and Grassroots.org is planning on changing the world slowly but surely by getting critical social facts to people throughout the world thanks to their 600+ domain names. They have a unique vision and understanding that the Internet has the power to make the world a safer, happier, healthier place by using advanced business and communications tools like domain names, to gain leverage in spreading usable social information. This strategy seems to be working as their vast network of associated domain names are attracting loads of traffic and receiving positive visitor comments.

Michael Mann is the executive director and founder of Grassroots.org, a clearinghouse for the best selection of domain names to build upon for humanitarian purposes to enable non-profits and everyday citizens to conduct their charitable activities online as efficiently as possible. In the past, he has turned his business efficiency and marketing expertise into a series of successful online companies, founding an Internet ISP in 1994 (later sold to Verio, Inc. in 1998) and currently residing as President of BuyDomains.com and Chairman of BrowserMedia.com. Over the last few years, Michael has been involved with charities for a number of organizations including working with the homeless, political action groups, and having the proud achievement of serving as a volunteer Chairman for a non-profit organization called Byte Back, which operates eight computer training centers serving the poor and unemployed in the inner-city.

As an expert in the domain industry, which is illustrated by his position as president of BuyDomains.com, Michael is supporting many causes by supplying 501c3 non-profit organizations an opportunity to co-develop on a selection of 600+ domain names to build upon for humanitarian purposes, including domains like Homeless.org, Relief.org, Addicted.org, Starvation.org and more. Michael’s actions at Grassroots.org is helping the world grow from the ground up, which in the Internet terms means using a domain name as the foundation for each cause. GrassRoots.org’s understanding of the power behind a highly brand-able domain name is evident in its strategy to improve the world’s current social, political, and economic problems.

A prime example of this power can be seen at EarthCare.org, a domain name that was supplied and co-developed by Grassroots.org. According to Grassroots.org, EarthCare’s domain name has been a key contributor to getting the group’s message heard: to educate and inspire youth to care for their communities and the Earth. Their web site is helping educate youth to create lifestyles that are beneficial to the natural environment by engaging them in programs that implement innovative environmental solutions. EarthCare.org, with the help of Grassroots.org, demonstrates that a domain name and web site have the power to communicate meaningful messages and information that are contributing towards building a better world.

Aside from the nuts and bolts of where to register your domain name and purchasing a good economical hosting service, there are a few things to know about buying a good domain name, that only experience can teach.
Here are a few tips to get you started on the right foot:

1. Buy only “.com” and don’t trouble yourself with the others.
Although the domain name players have gone to some trouble to publicize and market to us about the availability of other extensions such as .org, .net, .us and others…there is still no real reason to buy anything but “.com.”

If you currently have a domain name that is not a “.com,” I strongly suggest you obtain it. Or, if that’s not possible, consider finding a new domain name.

The rationale is simple: if the point of having a website is to get people to visit it, the best rule of thumb is to make it easy to remember. If your customers have to think in order to get to your website, and maybe even have to type in a wrong domain first before they finally reach you…you want to change that so they don’t.

2. Buy your own personal name.
What better way to make it easy for your customers to find you? As you become better known online, and as you build your customer database, it will become increasingly important for your customers to be able to find you based on your personal name.

Buying your personal name allows you to build credibility for your brand identity and makes it easy to “Google” you. Ever tried typing in just your first and last names at Google? Try it and see what happens.
If you aren’t showing up in the results, you will want to work on this. And buying your own personal name as a domain name is a simple and very effective way to get going.

3. Buy the most common spelling mistakes for your domain.
Even if you follow the advice in (2) above, it may be inevitable that some of your visitors will misspell your domain. It’s human error.

So although these may not be obvious to you at first, it’s worthwhile putting your antennae up in order to figure it out. The first hint? If you misspell your own domain name, chances are others will. Be sure to grab the most common ones.

Example: www.Google.com, www.Gogle.com and www.Gooogle.com all go to the same page. Why? Google “gets” that lots of people type in too few or too many “Os” and has set it up so everyone gets to the right place.

4. Double check your domain names for odd or unintentional meanings.
This one is a bit mixed, because if your domain name turns out to be something quite funny, it might be just that much more memorable and bring you free traffic. But you may not want to be remembered in that way, and the traffic that results could be a detriment to you. (The wrong target market just clogs up your system, uses bandwidth, and creates customer service inquiries you don’t want.)

So do a double check to see if your domain says something you didn’t expect.

What do I mean?

www.newsextracts.com is actually a clipping service, but could be interpreted to be something rather more racy.

www.whorepresents.com is actually a site where you can find a given actor’s agent or manager, but can be interpreted to be something else.

Last but not least, as with everything online, ebusiness owners have the luxury of easily and quickly asking our customers most anything, including “What do you think is the best domain name for this project?”

So when in doubt, ask your customers what they think. Give them a choice of a few domains you’ve narrowed it down to, and offer a prize of some sort to encourage participation. It works, and you’ll end up avoiding potholes along the way.
