As Desktops get smaller and laptop computers get faster the line between them gets blurred unless you look at the extreme sides of the scale. Desktops are getting streamlined and thin and laptops, particularly for gaming and so called desktop replacements are getting larger and more powerful. It’s getting to the point where the speed of laptop computers is able to compete with desktops. The price difference is also not as big as it used to be either. Notebook PC’s have declined considerably in price and this makes them a more attractive choice as they have the added bonus of being wireless and mobile. No need to keep them positioned in any particular place as with their desktop counterparts that’s for sure. There is also a level of personal ownership with laptops as they are not usually something shared with others. Desktop computers generally tend to be family purchases for all members of a family.
Intel has been controlling the laptop computer market as long as I can remember. The centrino label has signified a certain standard of performance but there has been some misunderstandings regarding what centrino laptops are. Common misconceptions include thinking that just because the laptop has an intel processor that makes it a centrino laptop. Some people fail to understand that centrino is a marketing platform that means the laptop has an intel mainboard, intel processor and intel wireless card.
The cpu, memory and video chip are things to pay attention to when you are buying a gaming laptop. The processor should be a dual core processor like the intel core duo with a speed of over 2GHz as the minimum. Minimum requirements for system memory are 2GB if running Windows Vista but 3GB is recommended for the best performance. To play games you need to have a dedicated viedo card. Usually you get 256MB dedicated graphics ram. A mid to high spec card should play all current and future games without any issues. For hardcore gaming players get only the top of the range gpu’s.
So gaming laptops do offer the versatility of a PC and if you want to play games then they play all PC games rather well too but what about gaming consoles? The PS3 and Xbox 360 could be a threat to the thought of a gaming laptop. Choosing just one is still difficult as gaming laptops still command a higher price for the added features and benefits they provide but the majority of people would be willing to pay the price to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
