You guys know I ignore my emotions, but dating games don’t “get” me. Here’s the scoup, this week I broke my resolution and smoked two packs of cigarettes. On a weekend of loneliness, for once. That actually happened. Am I crazy? Actually, that’s when I honestly looked into joining a dating service in Denver or Dallas.

Easy solution. I’ll ease back into dating with professionally hosted Denver singles events. And it turned out to be my golden ticket. The reason I mention my dating woes: While eating corn on the cob at George’s graduation at Oak Park this afternoon, Jim wanted to know if I’ve met a special lady. I just can’t believe that came up. So, I said, “No.”

There’s nowhere to hide when “The Twerp” (my nephew, age 9) chimed in on the topic of marriage. I quipped to all of them: “Hey look, what do you know about dating?”

You know what? Everyone looked away and giggled. Immediately, I called Dave just to get some perspective. What a waste of time! Nothing was helping and I needed some damn help. My cousin, who was a fellow Ram in high school (go Rams!) advised that I mingle at singles events by Great Expectations. I said, “Fine, okay.” I have some good friends. I will never regret joining this Dallas dating service.

Early on, singles events and mixers were kinda foreign from my perspective. I’d never done anything like this before, that my hands started sweating. This slip up did not pull the plug on a great time. The night was full of crazy-fun mingling. The truth is I’ll never forget all the attractive, single women.

There’s something great about going to these splendid singles events in Dallas, I bumped into quite a few winners who clearly share a like-minded spirit which made for a magnificent singles event. Now I can stop letting so many people get on my back about being single. Astoundingly enough, mingling with Great Expectations is a lot of fun and just what I’ve been looking for.
