I’ve been experimenting with a new online poker playing style here lately and I thought I’d share it with you loyal readers. I call it PAG, Passive-Aggressive Tight. What this means is you’re playing hugely passive preflop. A lot of calling and not a lot of raising at the casino. Now one thing I’ve found out is that this is a very high variance playing style since you may end up wasting a lot of blinds calling a 3bet only to get a 4bet from a 3way pot and having to fold, but heads up, it can be brilliant. The first advantage is that you get to see a lot of flops for cheap. So it’s a very position sensitive style of online poker. Most of your hands you’ll be playing near the cut-off or the button. And one of the advantages of this is that you’re playing chameleon style. The second part is the aggression. This is where you switch back into Tight Aggressive mode. You hit the flop and you’re betting hard. All your 3betting will be on the flop and not before. You’ll see a lot more all-ins than one who is raising before the flop. Since your opponent doesn’t have any information on your holding until after the flop, he can only guess if you’re bluffing or not (which in itself gives you more incentive to bluff or semibluff). Finally, you have to be prepared to play in multiway pots often. So you have to learn to properly betsize to isolate just one player. Then back to TAG mode. Hope you enjoy the experimentation.
