Some poker players act very aggressively and unpredictable at the table. They bet loosely and often, and it tends to scare off the other players, who can’t figure out what these maniac players might be holding in their hands. It is difficult to deal with maniacs at the table.

Maniacs tend to come in two types: the intentional maniac whose aim is to intimidate and confuse other players; and the clueless dumb maniac, who just wants lots of action.

If there is a maniac at your poker online table, try to recognize which type of maniac you are dealing with. The intentional maniac is deliberately trying to manipulate the other players with trash talk and outrageous bets. This player’s aim is to confuse, intimidate, and push opponents into tilt. These players know the game, are confident and impossible to read. The best strategy against them is to avoid entanglement but to wait for a very strong starter hand. Then when the maniac raises, come back over the top to use intimidation yourself and perhaps go heads-up, which gives your strong hand a better chance of winning.

If it’s the dumb variety you’re up against, then try to isolate and go heads-up early because these players just throw away their chips and you want those chips to go into your stack before the clueless maniac loses them all. Keep this in mind when you play poker online.
