Message to ICANN: Let those who want to create a tld, simply register it with ICANN.

If the tld is not already taken, if they have the technical capability to mange the tld, and they have the desire to market domain names on that tld, then let them do so.

It should be similar to the registering of a domain name, except on a higher level, with the added technical requirements. ICANN should be sort of an uber-registry for tlds.

It would be ludicrous for a domain name restrar like go daddy or enom to ask you for a business plan, or a non-refundable application fee, before allowing you to register a domain name. It would be ridiculous for a registrar to have “rounds” of domain name releases of names “they chose” in advance.

Okay, this month, go daddy will be allocating cheaperwebhosting.com, doggrommingmadeeasy.net, and virtualinternetwebnetwork.net. We will be taking applications and public comment during the month of february. We will then spend another month reviewing the applicants business plans to decide who we will allocate the domain name to. If you are not approved to manage the domain name you apply for, your application fee will be held by go daddy until further notice.

Some people will say that is not a good analogy, but it is a perfect analogy. Here is why. If info.com was still available and I registered it. I could then start selling subdomains like car.info.com, computer.info.com, icann.info.com or any other subdomain someone wished to purchase from me. The subdomain is one dot removed from the domain name the same as the domain name is one dot removed from the tld.

There is no longer any reason to believe ICANN is doing anything other than restricting free enterprise and free trade by not opening up the market for tlds. It is no longer acceptable that ICANN should be the one to decide which tlds will or will not be created nor is it acceptable that ICANN gets to choose who can or cannot run a tld.

Do you present a businesss plan to the city you live in before they allow you a business license? No.

Does the city ask you to prove you are financially stable before issuing you a business license? No, as long as you pay the registration fee.

If you apply for a business license to open a clothing store, does the city ask how you will run your clothing store or if you have the necessary expertise to run a clothing store? No.

Does the city think you will hurt them economically if your clothing store goes out of business? No, it’s none of their business.

Is the city concerned that there may not enough demand for yet another clothing store? No, again none of their business.

ICANN not allowing me, or anyone else in the world, to create a tld of our choice in any language we choose, is a blatant violation of our rights. In many countries, America among them, the right to free enterprise still exists. ICANN is denying me that right as an American citizen and doing so when even their own organization exists under American law.

There are no needs for auctions or rounds or anything else. If you want to run a tld, then you register it and start selling domain names. If you fail, you fail, just as in any other business venture you take on.

Artificially restricting namespace to make a few business IP interests happy has to stop.

A few years ago it did not matter whether you had a .com type domain or an extension specific to your own country.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that it was probably considered quite ‘cool’ to have a .com domain. It gave the impression that you were serious about your business.

Then Google decided to go local and now most local country searches would probably go through the version of Google specific to your own country.

When Google launched my country’s local version of Google (www.google.co.za) I investigated the matter of having a .com domain versus having .co.za domain and how that would affect where you would show up in the SERPS (search engine result pages).

I searched through various forums (on Google itself) as well as other big forums like WebHostingTalk. I also did my own tests. The consensus seems to be that you will only show up in the regional search engine of Google (and I specifically refer here to using your country’s local Google to LIMIT results to your country’s results) if
1) your domain extension (e.g. .co.za or .co.uk etc.) corresponds with the region, or
2) your IP of the hosting server falls in the corresponding geographic region or

The implication of this is that if your domain ends in a .com AND you happen to be hosted physically on an internationally located server, your .com domain will NOT show up in www.google.co.za when the search is limited to South African results.
(How do you know whether your domain is hosted locally or off-shore? There are technical ways to find out but the easiest would be to ask your hosting service provider!)

Now you might argue that people might not use the ‘Limit to <your country's> results’ option - that they might search world wide. That might be so, but here is another curveball: Even when presenting world wide results, the regional Google search engine gives a preference to local domains.

So here is the bottom line:
- When you have a .com website, make sure that the physical servers that they are hosted on are located locally in your own country
- If you have the option (and your business is aimed at your local market), always register a local domain for your business website.

If you currently have a .com domain that is located off-shore, you will NEVER show up in the local results of Google (if you specifically limit the searches to your own country’s results only), and even when people do not limit the results to your country only, you will compete against millions of other .com domains, while your local competitor with a local domain extension will sneak right up to the top results in Google because Google gives more preference to those domains when using its local version of the search engine.

What can you do about this? I would suggest that you register a local domain and start migrating your webiste over to the new domain. You can leave your business cards and company brochures with your .com extension until you run out and have to print new ones in any case - all you need to do is ask your webhosting provider to put a forward on your .com domain to your local domain name.

It will take a while for the transition to show up in all relevant search engines and to be frank, this might not be a painless process! But you need to decide how important it is to you to show up on the first pages of the local search engines - there are other ways of marketing your website too. But if you think that you might be losing out on targeted traffic, I suggest you bite the bullet and go for it - rather sooner than later!

You may have seen on eBay and other auctions high pagerank (PR) domains for sale. You may have even considered purchasing one of these domains. How do you ascertain the value of such a domain?

First of all, you must verify the PR by using a free tool such as http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html. You just enter the domain name that you are thinking of purchasing. This site will tell you whether or not the domain actually has the PR that the seller claims.

Then, even if the site has a high PR, it still may NOT be indexed by Google, and if a site is not indexed, that’s sort of like a word not being in the dictionary. Google may think it’s a great word based on the PR, but if they don’t index it, it won’t be found in Google’s “dictionary.”

It may seem inconceivable that Google will give PR to a site they don’t index, but I’ve seen it happen many times. Google explains it’s because the algorithms that index sites are constantly updating, but the algorithms that calculate PR update less frequently, and sometimes the two processes are not in synch.

Be that as it may, I’ve seen high PR domains for sale that are NOT indexed in Google. What you can do to find out whether the domain is indexed in Google is to type site:www.nameofthedomain.com into the search bar. If Google comes back with a page that says, “Your search - site:www.nameofthedomain.com - did not match any documents” — well, the site is not indexed in Google.

You can try the same thing in Yahoo and MSN and see if any pages are indexed in those search engines. If the domain is well-indexed in Yahoo and MSN, and getting a lot of traffic, it may not matter if the domain is not indexed by Google.

However, another important factor in purchasing a domain is how many backlinks, or links from other sites, the domain has. You can type link:www.nameofthedomain.com into Google, and it will tell you which sites are linking to the domain. Once again, I’ve seen sites with high PR that only had one or even no backlinks!

If you are considering purchasing a domain with a high PR that is not well indexed or doesn’t have many backlinks, you’ve got to stop and think for a minute. Google has made it well known that it considers relevant backlinks, among many other criteria, in assessing PR. Now if the domain has no or few backlinks, how long do you think it will keep its PR?

So when considering the purchase of a high PR domain, be sure to perform your due diligence. Two other free tools that will help you are http://reladvance.com/metrix/find_metrics_results.php and http://www.linkpopularity.com. Always check out every aspect of the domain — PR, indexing, and backlinks — using several independent tools. None of the tools are 100% accurate at any given moment, and so it’s to your advantage to use them all and compare results.

There’s nothing more fun then being creative with food and eating healthy at the same time. I had bought frozen salmon burgers to just keep in the freezer for a quick, easy meal. An easy way to eat a salmon burger is to eat it like a regular hamburger, but since I like to get creative, I experimented a little.

You can either buy the frozen salmon burgers or you can make your own. I haven’t attempted that yet but plan on it. I’m not that crazy about the frozen ones, could be the brand though. Ok on to creating… (serving based on 1 person)… Now the veggies can be switched if you don’t like something you can replace it with something else or just leave it out.

1 salmon burger
sliced onion ( use as much or little as you like)
half a red pepper sliced in long thin pieces
half a yellow pepper sliced in long thin pieces
about a cup of broccoli
shredded mozzarella
grated parmesan cheese
Olive oil

In a small pan cook the salmon burger. After it’s cooked take off the heat and sprinkle some shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Then cover the pan for a few minutes so the cheese melts on top of it.

In another pan heat some olive oil on medium heat. Put in sliced onions, peppers and broccoli and sauté. Pour a little more olive oil on so it doesn’t seem dry. I add a little bit of salt for flavor, you can use no salt or any other seasoning to your liking. Keep mixing the veggies so they don’t burn, and cook for about 5 to 8 minutes. I like the veggies a little crunchy with the salmon burger so I don’t cook them too long. Spread veggies on a plate, put a little more olive oil over them and then sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top. Place the salmon burger on top of the veggies and dig in!

You get your protein with the salmon burger, your carbohydrates with your veggies, protein and fat with the cheeses and more healthy fat with the olive oil. It’s a well rounded meal; satisfying, healthy and delicious.

What better way to change your style of eating to a more healthy way then to be creative, enjoy experimenting. Smile your way into a better eating style for yourself.

More vacationers every year are choosing to take their holidays on a special train that provides everything in one package; travel, accommodation and fine dining. No where is this more evident than in Canada where the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific and Atlantic Coasts and the magnificent scenery in between has made scenic train tours a booming industry.

Rocky Mountaineer has started a number of rail tours, some of 3 nights/4 days duration into the Rocky Mountains, some two or three days longer to allow for better exploration of the mountain areas. All tour trains have dome cars with plenty of seating, day cars and dining cars. On some portions of the tour there are sleeping cars provided. Of special note for those who remember the fine dining one used to experience on the rails, Rocky Mountaineer has ensured these folks will not be disappointed. White linen, heavy silverware, uniformed waitpersons providing seamless service and exceptional menus have all been re-instated to enhance the rail tour experience.

The Trans Canada Rail Adventure is rail enthusiasts’ dreams come true! Rivaling any of the better known rail tours like the Orient Express, this tour is longer and has some of the most spectacular and diverse scenery anywhere in the world. The tour lasts 16 nights and 17 days, starting in Vancouver on the Pacific Coast and ending in Halifax on the Atlantic Coast. There is of course the opposite west-bound route starting in Halifax and ending in Vancouver.

Here is a brief rundown of the east-bound itinerary.

Day 1. You arrive in Vancouver, check into your hotel assigned by Rocky Mountaineer Tours and spend time exploring the city on your own. Admission to the Observation Deck at Harbour Centre with views of the city, mountains and ocean is included.

Day 2. After a pleasant night’s sleep, you board the Rocky Mountaineer for the first leg of the journey, which will end in Kamloops in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. The scenery will change from the lush green fields of the lower Fraser River Valley, through forests and winding river canyons as you travel through the Coast and Cascade Mountains. Highlights will include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate, the narrowest strip of the Fraser River. Slowly the scenery changes to the desert-like environment along the Thompson River, where sage brush abounds, along with a few rattlesnakes. Then along the shores of Kamloops Lake before easing into your overnight destination of Kamloops.

Day 3. Your journey continues eastward to the Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Here again you will see a phenomenal range of scenery as you travel across ranchlands, along rocky lakeshores, then into high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that go through the mountains. Today’s highlights include Craigellachie where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels - a remarkable feat of railroad engineering and of course the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Your journey today ends in the resort town of Banff this evening. Overnight in Banff. Day 4. Enjoy a three-hour sightseeing tour by bus of Banff townsite this morning. Among the highlights are visits to Bow Falls, the Banff Gondola, the Cave and Basin Centre, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos. The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure in Banff. Overnight in Banff.

Day 5. A half-day tour takes you into Yoho National Park. Among the attractions are the Spiral Tunnels (this time from the highway), Emerald Lake (it really is green) and a natural rock bridge that spans the Kicking Horse River. The tour ends at Lake Louise and your afternoon is at leisure to enjoy this magnificent location. Overnight at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

Day 6. Free day at Lake Louise. Take a stroll beside the lake or an afternoon paddle in a canoe. Afternoon tea in the lounge. Overnight at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

Day 7. A full day sightseeing tour of Banff and Jasper National Parks via the Icefields Parkway. Among the highlights are Bow Lake, the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Falls. The Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle in addition to being one of the most accessible ones in North America. It is here that you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of Athabasca Glacier to learn more about its geological features. Arrive in Jasper late this afternoon. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 8, 9. This afternoon begins your three-day journey with VIA Rail First Class from Jasper to Toronto across the Prairie Provinces and Northern Ontario. Overnight on VIA Rail both nights.

Day 10. Arrive in Toronto on VIA Rail this evening. Overnight in Toronto.

Day 11. Enjoy a full day bus tour to Niagara Falls, one of the great natural wonders of the world. Included is a cruise on the Maid of the Mist to the base of Horseshoe Falls (Imax Theatre show of “Journey Behind the Falls” is substituted when Maid of the Mist is not operating). Return to Toronto early this evening. Overnight in Toronto.

Day 12. Travel by VIA Rail in VIA First Class from Toronto to Montreal. Overnight in Montreal.

Day 13. Montreal sightseeing with stops including Old Montreal, Notre-Dame Basilica, Olympic Park, Mount Royal and McGill University among others. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this vibrant city on your own. Overnight in Montreal.

Day 14. Spend the day sightseeing independently in Montreal before taking the overnight VIA train to Halifax. Dinner is served onboard. Overnight on VIA Rail.

Day 15. Enjoy the landscapes of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as you arrive in Halifax this afternoon. Breakfast is served onboard. Spend the rest of the day exploring this eastern seaboard city. Overnight in Halifax.

Day 16. Visit the picture postcard village of Peggy’s Cove and the most photographed lighthouse in the world. There will be plenty of time at the cove for exploring and shopping. Overnight in Halifax.

Day 17. Halifax Departure. Your tour ends with check-out from your Halifax hotel.

After sixteen nights and seventeen days, you have a lifetime’s supply of memories and visual images of the diverse scenery and culture you have explored on your journey of 6,400 kilometres (4000 miles) across the world’s second largest country.

We all want the best and flowers are no exception. There are so many virtual flower shops on the Internet; it can become a very daunting task to find a florist that best meets our needs. Also, while most flower companies online are reputable, some may not be. Moreover, their selections, quality and pricing may vary considerably.

A majority of online florists are genuine florist shops who have agreements with a third party website to open up companies with multiple national and international delivery facilities. They generally the have years of experience and know a lot about flowers and the infrastructure needed to handle hundreds of online orders everyday. They will link up with a professional florist in the recipient’s locale and have your request (as close as they can possibly get) hand delivered on the same day. This is the most popular distribution system throughout Northern America.

When choosing a florist, it may be a good idea to ask around. A good florist will have a rock solid reputation of satisfied customers simply by word of mouth. They will also most likely be linked with to a florist that offers FTD or TELEFLORA. These two entities are actually referral systems, or one-stop shops for anyone in the country to buy flowers for delivery. The umbrella company will forward your order on to a member florist in your locale.

You should take a look at the florists’ rankings too. Other tips to keep in mind are the company should have a secure online server for placing orders, testimonials by satisfied customers and promised delivery times.

Finding providers who offer individual dental insurance plans may be difficult but not impossible. So do not let this minor point stop you from finding an insurance provider, because having dental insurance fulfills two great benefits:

Excellent Oral Health
ADA studies have shown that cleanings and regular dental check ups is one of the best ways to keep ones’ teeth and gums healthy, and safe from diseases. Many plans provide and pay for the insured to go for regular dental check ups.

Relief From Costly Dental Bills
Cavities, root canals, crowns and teeth extraction are an unpleasant reality. Without dental insurance, these simple procedures can become expensive. Many dental insurance providers offer plans where they pay for a bigger percentage or pay for the entire dental procedure.

What To Consider In The Search For Individual Dental Insurance Providers

Short or no waiting period
Some dental insurance providers impose a waiting period, to ensure that the old problems from the previous provider are not carried over to the new plan. This can be a problem for you if you need to undergo a procedure, but the new dental insurance has a waiting period of 6 to 8 months before you can avail of the coverage. You will end up paying for this treatment out of your pocket. So, do not delay your search for a dental insurance plan.

Buyer Plans or referral plans
Consider third party companies, which offer referral plans. Under this arrangement, the individual pays a monthly fee to a third party to gain access to dentists who have agreed to a reduced fee schedule. The third party’s services involve securing individuals to dentists. The individual pays the discounted dental fee directly to the dentist.

Independent insurance carriers
You can easily find these carriers on the net or the yellow pages. The better ones offer a flexible dental insurance plan, which can be written as stand-alone coverage or as a part of your present dental insurance plan.

Some of these carriers provide plans with the following benefits:
• The flexibility to seek treatment from your preferred dentist, but they will offer you bigger discounted fees if you choose a dentist from their network.
• Inform you what the contracted rate is for the treatment before you undergo this.
• Provide you complete coverage from preventive services such as check ups to major procedures like full dentures.
